Thank you to all of you that took the time to come over to the FEED_NOISE opening night. The HND group did themselves proud. Well, the HND students did themselves proud. There were no tears but plenty of sweat - nice... After two very stressful and hot days the work was finally on the walls and on the floors and on the ceiling and anywhere the students could find to put it.

Along the way we met some really nice people from Bournemouth and Epsom Uni's. Vaughan Oliver dropped by and praised the work, which was rather nice. He is currently doing some teaching at University for the Creative Arts, Epsom, who were in the next room to us. The work from there was beautiful and made for a great show.

Thank you to our External Examiner Nic Freeman from Beautiful TV, who gave up precious studio time to moderate the show. Your comments and feedback were spot on and so important to the students, thanks again.

Thanks too to Adam Jenns of Mainframe who also took some time out of a very busy schedule to visit our show – thank you.

Thank you also has to go to all of our sponsors and to all the people who traveled down from Birmingham to either lend a hand or visit the show,

Here are some pre-made boxes that could be easy adapted to light boxes, plinths etc
Some are cheap others are costly but it would ultimately save you time and money and with a bit of effort you could convert them...

Plinth ideas

Some of us went to the Ikon today and came across another, probably better way of making plinths. Personally I prefer this style and think they would be more appropriate for the space at Free Range.

Check out Ryan, who is in the latest edition of Computer Arts Magazine [one the cover and on page 7].

TDR TICKETS - Tomorrows tutorial

Can you ALL make sure that you have purchased your pass for TDR. Tickets, as you would expect have sold very well and extremely fast. It appears that you lot haven't bought many.

AS you are aware this is a DEBATE. I would very much expect that you have questions ready. This could add weight to your research and enhance your FMP's.

We'll discuss this in tutorial tomorrow - please bring all FMP work, ZINE, THIS IS ENGLAND and printouts of any other work you would like to include in the show.

HAYLEY is going to do a 10 min presentation on her FMP.

The following people are going to do 3 minute presentations on their FMP work:

Narrative behind work - in detail

The reaction you want from the viewer - in detail

Look and Feel including layout of show and equipment (plinths etc) that you will use

Audio Wires

The other end goes into a two way mini - jack converter (short silver tube). The other end of the two-way mini jack converter is used to plug your headphones (cans) into...

For those of you either projecting or showing video on monitors this is how you get sound out into headphones from a DVD player.

As I said in previous meetings I have 4 data projectors to lend out. Please don't make the mistake of presuming because you put that you need one in your equipment list, that was probably handed in late, that you will get one. I am currently in the process of deciding what gets projected and what gets to go on monitors.

You also have the IMACS to use, which takes away the problem of having wires and DVD's as Quicktimes can be constantly looped if all screen savers and energy savers in the the control panels have been taken off.

PLINTHS, STANDS, BOXES

I am going to set an ultimate deadline for this. Justin is only to take down orders for wood. He is not in anyway responsible for the building of them or organisation of them.

Several weeks have passed since the initial deadline and one of you have mentioned you may need a plinth. This will not happen unless you allow time for it to be constructed, painted and assembled.

A3 Portfolios

You will all need to get an A3 portfolio except PT2 unless you want to start preparing for next year.

Get yourself 10 -15 A3 clear sleeves at the same time. If the sleeves are in anyway marked, creased or dirty buy them from somewhere else. But don't fold or roll them as they will look rubbish in your portfolio and a good agency will think you are rubbish.

Here are some common questions answered for you:

Q:Do I need to use A3?

A:YES

Q:Can I use any other size ?

A:NO

Q:I like red can I get a red one ?

A:NO

Q:What other colours apart from black can I have then?

A:No other colour, texture other than BLACK...

Q:I have seen a really nice one made of a different material can I use it?

A:No

Displaying work

These are some pictures I took at the Design Museum on Thursday's visit. I very much like the way in which the IMACS were hidden in the over sized boxes. Pay particular attention to the use of headphones and the drilled holes on the exhibits that were playing to the public.

Look very carefully at the way work is displayed in the cabinets.

Sinage is going to be important. We need more sponsorship to pay for banners, plinths, cabinets and sponsorship.

As you know Hadley is heading up the security for the show. That means that he will implement a plan that involves NO Less than 8 of you looking after the show between 9am -6.00pm everyday. You will be responsible for opening up the deadlocks and removing the chains and padlocks. All Imacs, Data Projectors, DVD players will be locked down to heavy weights and data Projectors and DVD players will be hidden from the public view within the plinths.

Please update me on this regally.

I WILL TAKE CHARGE OF ALL KEYS GIVEN TO US AND WILL BE THERE FOR OPENING AND CLOSING DOWN EACH DAY.

Secure storage will be in the back room that we will have the only keys for too.

It was extremely nice to hear from Tamsin (Free Range Director) that your work is very, very strong especially compared to the so called big name Uni's in the show.. I was particularly pleased that she made the point that she has used it for all PR. You should be very proud of yourselves...

When this is complete it will be an interactive IPhone - notice the shelves and sandbags...

Not so clean-cut inside! but will be very well finished at the end...

I know it seems very obvious but I need you to consider plinths. I have had a person lined up to make them for you. Time is ticking and you HAVE NOT met the deadline. Please note that if you are going to make your own then the must be to the shows style guides.

Noise showcases the talent of final year HND Graphic Design Students from the FEED Studio at Millennium Point Birmingham. The show will encompass a plethora of media from print design to motion graphics. It will demonstrate the learners’ range of abilities from client work to highly conceptual projects that challenge the limitations of design practice.

HND Graphic Design at Matthew Boulton College offers students a platform to showcase their work to a professional standard, enabling students to work across different design media for print, motion and interactive graphics in addition to photography, media, music and art.
